Gutter Installation That Protects Your Foundation

A gutter is a channel attached to the edge of your roofline that collects rainwater and directs it away from your home's foundation, siding, and landscaping through downspouts. Get that system wrong, wrong size, wrong pitch, wrong downspout placement, and every rainstorm sends water pooling against your foundation instead of away from it. SOS Home Ohio installs seamless gutters sized and sloped to match your specific roofline, not whatever's easiest to hang. If you're seeing overflow after a moderate rain, water staining on your fascia, or erosion in your mulch beds, it's time to call 614-913-3809 and get an accurate look at what your current system is actually doing.

The installation process starts with a full evaluation of your roofline: how much water each section sheds, where downspouts need to land to move water well clear of the foundation, and what gutter profile and gauge makes sense for your roof's pitch and overhang. Seamless aluminum gutters are the standard for most Columbus-area homes because they eliminate the joints where sectional gutters fail first. Cost depends on linear footage, number of downspout locations, the height and complexity of your roofline, and whether any fascia board repairs are needed before the gutters go on. Every job is different, contact SOS Home Ohio for an accurate estimate.

Why Gutters Fail Before Their Time

Most gutter problems aren't about age. They're about the original installation.

Gutters that overflow aren't always clogged. A lot of the time they were hung with the wrong pitch from day one, or the downspouts were placed where they were easy to install rather than where the water actually needed to go. Sectional gutters also develop leaks at every joint over time, especially after Ohio freeze-thaw cycles work on the sealant. We see a lot of homes with 5-inch gutters on rooflines that shed enough water to need 6-inch, and the homeowner has been fighting overflow for years without knowing that's the issue. A bigger gutter profile isn't always the answer either. The downspout placement and pitch matter just as much as the size.

What We Install

Seamless Aluminum Gutters, Built on Site

We fabricate seamless gutters on your property so every run is cut to exact length.

01

5-Inch K-Style

The right fit for most residential rooflines in the Columbus metro. Holds more water than a half-round profile of the same width.

02

6-Inch K-Style

Recommended for steeper pitches and larger roof sections. Handles higher water volume without backing up during heavy Ohio downpours.

03

Downspout Placement

We locate every downspout where the water needs to go, not where it's convenient to drill. Extensions discharge well clear of the foundation.

04

Fascia Inspection

We check the fascia board before anything goes up. Rotted or soft fascia won't hold a gutter securely, and we'll flag any issues before installation starts.

Our Process

How a Gutter Installation Actually Goes

From first call to cleaned-up driveway, here's what to expect.

  1. 01

    Site Evaluation

We walk the roofline, assess the fascia condition, measure linear footage, and determine where downspouts should land based on grade and foundation proximity.

  2. 02

    Fabrication and Installation

Seamless gutters are formed on site to exact length. Hangers go in at proper intervals, pitch is set with a level, and downspouts are secured and angled away from the foundation.

  3. 03

    Final Check and Cleanup

We run water through the system to confirm flow and pitch before we leave. All packaging and old material are hauled off the property.

When to Replace vs. When to Repair

gutter installation work, professional service in Hilliard, OH
Not every gutter problem needs a full replacement. A single section that's pulling away from the fascia, a joint that's opened up, or a downspout that got knocked out of position. Those are repairs. Full replacement makes sense when the gutters are sagging across multiple runs, the pitch is wrong throughout, the profile is undersized for the roof, or the fascia behind them has deteriorated enough that any repair would just fail again in a year. We'll tell you which situation you're in after the estimate, and we won't push a full replacement when a repair is actually the right call. If you're pairing new gutters with a roof replacement, that's the ideal time to do it, everything comes off clean and the new gutters go up on fresh fascia.

The Full-Exterior Advantage

49 Google reviews. 5 stars. Here's what that actually means in practice.

Most gutter contractors only do gutters. That's fine until there's a problem that crosses into the roof or siding. SOS Home Ohio handles vinyl siding, roofing, and gutters, so when we're on your property we can spot the wood rot at the roofline that a gutter-only contractor would just nail over. We hold a 5-star rating across 49 Google reviews, and a lot of that comes from homeowners who called for one thing and appreciated that we flagged the other issue before it turned into a bigger repair. One contractor, one call, one set of eyes on the whole exterior.

SOS did a great job with my roof. From the initial estimate, working with the insurance company, explaining the process. They completed the job professionally and made sure everything was to my satisfaction before I signed off. They helped turn a very complex process into an easy one.

Paul from SOS came out today and was great. He clearly showed me the problem areas and what they would need to do to fix them. There was no sales pressure to get a new roof like many places do. I will do another review once the repairs are done.

Paul came out to inspect the roof after those big wind & hail storms. He was able to identify the issues and proposed affordable, smart solutions. Highly recommend!

Very pleased with the level of detail provided in the roof inspection following wind and hail damage to my roof and chimney cap. The inspection was thorough and comprehensive, offering a clear picture of the condition and remaining life of the entire roof system—including gutters, downspouts, roof surface, and attic interior. Paul and his team did an excellent job helping me understand my situation and the next steps toward resolving the issues. They answered all of my questions with patience and expertise.

SOS Roofing is true to its name. I contacted the company for emergency help for a friend. The company owner, Paul, responded immediately, arrived on-site in two to three hours, and had the emergency handled a short time after that. Due to a roof leaking badly in a serious rain and windstorm, a speedy response and solution was definitely needed. SOS Roofing provided that solution, preventing serious interior damage to the home. I highly recommend this company and its owner.

Gutter Installation Questions, Answered

What's the difference between seamless and sectional gutters?
Sectional gutters come in pre-cut lengths joined together with connectors. Every joint needs sealant and every joint is a place where the system eventually fails, especially after Ohio freeze-thaw cycles work on the caulk. Seamless gutters are formed from a continuous coil of aluminum on site, cut to the exact length of each run. The only joints are at inside and outside corners and at downspout connections, dramatically fewer failure points.
How do I know if my gutters are the wrong size for my roof?
The clearest sign is consistent overflow during moderate rain when the gutters aren't clogged. Most homes in the Columbus area were built with 5-inch gutters, which is correct for a lot of roof pitches. Steeper pitches and larger roof sections shed water faster and can overwhelm a 5-inch profile. If you're cleaning the gutters regularly and still getting overflow, the profile size is worth evaluating.
How far should downspouts discharge water from the foundation?
The general rule is at least 6 feet from the foundation, but the right number depends on the grade of your yard. Flat lots need longer extensions or underground discharge to get water moving away effectively. We set every downspout extension based on where the water actually needs to go given your specific grade, not a fixed length applied to every house.
Do I need to replace my fascia before new gutters go on?
Not always, but you should know what you're hanging gutters on before installation day. Gutters are heavy when full of water and rely on the fascia board being structurally sound. If the wood is soft, rotted, or pulling away from the rafter tails, the gutter will start pulling loose within a year regardless of how well it's installed. We inspect the fascia during the estimate and flag any sections that need addressing first.
Should I add gutter guards at the same time as new gutters?
If you have mature trees over or near your roofline, installing gutter guards at the same time as new gutters is the most cost-effective approach. You're already paying for installation labor; adding guards at that point avoids a second mobilization later. If your yard is relatively open and debris isn't a major issue, guards are optional. We'll give you an honest assessment based on what we see at your property.
Can gutters be installed in winter?
Yes. Aluminum gutters can be installed year-round. The main consideration is that the fascia needs to be dry enough for the sealant at corners and end caps to cure properly. We've worked through Ohio winters and know what conditions require an extra day of cure time. Cold weather doesn't stop the installation; it just requires attention to how the sealant products are handled on site.
