Gutter Repairs That Actually Stop the Leak

A leaking gutter or a compromised roof doesn't get better on its own. Water finds the path of least resistance, and in Ohio that path usually leads inside your walls, into your fascia, or down your foundation. SOS Home Ohio handles both gutter repairs and roof repairs so you're not coordinating two separate contractors when the problem almost always involves both. We carry 5 stars across 49 Google reviews. Call 614-913-3809 and we'll get eyes on the damage fast.

What drives the cost of a gutter or roof repair depends on the scope: how many linear feet of gutter need resealing or replacement, whether the fascia board underneath has rotted and needs replacing too, how many roof penetrations are involved, the pitch of the roof, and whether the damage is isolated or spread across multiple sections. A straightforward gutter resealing job sits at the low end. A wind event that's lifted flashing, cracked caulking at multiple valleys, and compromised a downspout connection is a different scope entirely. Every job is different, contact SOS Home Ohio for an accurate estimate.

What We Fix

Common Gutter and Roof Repair Scenarios

Ohio weather creates a predictable set of exterior problems, and most of them have a faster fix than homeowners expect.

01

Leaking Gutter Seams

Gutter sections separate over time, especially after freeze-thaw cycles in Franklin County winters. We clean the joint, apply a professional-grade sealant rated for exterior metal, and test the run with water before we leave.

02

Sagging or Pulling Gutters

Gutters that pull away from the fascia are usually a fastener failure or a rotted fascia board underneath. We don't just reset the spike, we assess the board first. A rotten fascia hidden behind a gutter is the repair that gets missed.

03

Hail and Wind Damage

Spring storms in the Columbus metro routinely lift shingles, crack flashing, and dent gutter runs in the same event. We document the damage thoroughly, which matters if you're filing an insurance claim.

04

Flashing Failures

Step flashing along chimneys and dormer walls is where most roof leaks actually originate. The shingle looks fine from the ground. The flashing underneath has separated. We reseal or replace flashing without a full tear-off unless the deck underneath is compromised.

05

Downspout Blockages and Damage

A crushed or disconnected downspout sends water straight to your foundation. We clear obstructions, reseat connections, and replace sections that are too damaged to seal properly.

06

Ice Dam Damage

Ice dams form at the eaves when heat escapes through the attic and refreezes at the cold overhang. They force water back up under shingles. If you saw ice backed up on your roofline last winter, there's a good chance water got in. We inspect the interior decking, not just the surface.

Our Process

How a Repair Assessment Works

  1. 01

    We Get on the Roof

Not every contractor does this for a repair call. We do. A ground-level inspection misses flashing gaps, lifted shingles, and soft spots in the decking. Paul or Andrew goes up, documents what they find, and shows you the photos.

  2. 02

We Tell You What's Needed: and What Isn't

If a repair is the right call, we say so. We won't push you toward a full roof replacement when a targeted fix handles the problem. Keith Grey noted there was 'no sales pressure to get a new roof'. That's deliberate.

  3. 03

We Schedule and Complete the Work

Repairs are scheduled as fast as the scope allows. Storm-related damage gets priority. We confirm the fix is holding before we consider the job done.

Insurance Claims

Storm Damage and the Insurance Process

Wind and hail claims in Ohio require documentation the insurance adjuster will actually accept. We've worked with carriers on behalf of homeowners in the Columbus area and we know what the inspection report needs to show. Sheila Bowersmith put it directly: SOS went beyond 'getting me the insurance payment that I was entitled to.' Greg Ramah described the same experience, SOS helped turn 'a very complex process into an easy one.' We're not adjusters and we don't make promises about claim outcomes. But we document damage accurately and thoroughly, and we stay in the conversation with you through the process. If you've had a storm event and aren't sure whether you have a claim, call 614-913-3809 and we'll assess the roof first. A proper inspection is the only honest starting point.

Paul from SOS came out today and was great. He clearly showed me the problem areas and what they would need to do to fix them. There was no sales pressure to get a new roof like many places do. I will do another review once the repairs are done.

Very pleased with the level of detail provided in the roof inspection following wind and hail damage to my roof and chimney cap. The inspection was thorough and comprehensive, offering a clear picture of the condition and remaining life of the entire roof system—including gutters, downspouts, roof surface, and attic interior. Paul and his team did an excellent job helping me understand my situation and the next steps toward resolving the issues. They answered all of my questions with patience and expertise.

SOS Roofing is true to its name. I contacted the company for emergency help for a friend. The company owner, Paul, responded immediately, arrived on-site in two to three hours, and had the emergency handled a short time after that. Due to a roof leaking badly in a serious rain and windstorm, a speedy response and solution was definitely needed. SOS Roofing provided that solution, preventing serious interior damage to the home. I highly recommend this company and its owner.

Gutter and Roof Repair: Our Work

Repairs vs. Replacement: How to Know

  1. 01

    Repair Is Usually Right If...

The damage is localized, one section of gutter, a flashing failure at a single penetration, a handful of lifted shingles after a wind event. Targeted repair costs a fraction of replacement and extends the life of an otherwise sound roof or gutter system.

  2. 02

    Replacement Makes Sense When...

The underlying structure is compromised, the roofing system is near or past its expected service life, or the repair scope has grown to cover more than roughly a quarter of the total surface. We'll tell you honestly where the line is. If it's a borderline call, you'll hear both sides.

  3. 03

The Only Way to Know Is an Inspection

We won't tell you which category your roof or gutters fall into without getting on the roof first. Any contractor who gives you a confident repair-or-replace verdict from the driveway is guessing. Call 614-913-3809 and we'll find out together.

Roof and Gutter Repairs: FAQ

How do I know if a gutter leak is a gutter problem or a roof drainage problem?
Gutters that overflow during moderate rain but aren't visibly cracked or separated are usually undersized or improperly sloped, a drainage design issue. Gutters that leak at the seams or drip behind the fascia board are a gutter failure. A roof drainage problem shows up as water getting under the drip edge. We check all three during an assessment because they frequently overlap, especially after storm events.
Can you seal gutters without replacing them?
Often, yes. Metal and vinyl gutter sections that are structurally intact but leaking at the joints or end caps can be resealed with a butyl-based gutter sealant applied from inside the channel. The joint has to be clean and dry for the sealant to bond. If the metal is corroded through or the seam has separated by more than a few millimeters, the section needs replacing rather than resealing.
What does a roof repair typically include versus what it doesn't?
A targeted repair addresses the specific failure point: reseating lifted shingles, replacing cracked or missing shingles in a defined area, resealing or replacing flashing at a chimney, pipe boot, or valley. It does not address adjacent sections that are aging but haven't failed yet, and it doesn't include underlayment replacement unless the decking has been exposed. We'll tell you what's in scope and what's outside it before any work starts.
How long does a typical gutter or roof repair take to complete?
A gutter resealing or refastening job on a standard residential run is usually completed in a few hours. Flashing replacement at a chimney or dormer takes a half to full day depending on complexity. A partial shingle repair on a defined roof section is similar. We don't give completion times without seeing the scope first, but most repairs are single-day work once scheduled.
If I had hail damage, does the roof always need to be replaced?
Not automatically. Hail damage assessment depends on the hail size, the shingle type and age, and the density of hits per square foot. Soft-metal components like ridge caps, pipe boots, and gutters often show visible impact marks even when the shingle field itself hasn't been compromised. A thorough inspection documents what's actually damaged, which is what an insurance adjuster will look at. We don't push replacement when repair is the honest answer.
Can gutter damage be covered by homeowners insurance after a storm?
Gutter damage caused by a named storm event, hail, wind, falling debris, is generally covered under standard homeowners policies as sudden and accidental damage. Damage from age, wear, or improper installation typically isn't. The key is documentation: photos taken immediately after the event, a professional inspection report, and a clear connection between the storm and the damage. We can provide the inspection documentation; the claim decision is between you and your carrier.
